World Immunisation Week 2021
This week is World Immunisation Week 2021 and this year’s theme is Vaccines Bring Us Together. As the world continues to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, we receive daily updates on the progress of the COVID-19 vaccine rollout across the world and statistics on how the vaccine is helping to fight against the virus.
The COVID-19 vaccine was developed, tested and approved in record time in comparison to other vaccines, largely due to the danger the virus poses particularly to vulnerable people in society and the pressure placed on healthcare systems globally. For many people, the vaccine symbolises a return to normality and things we previously took for granted and for governments, it’s a chance to relieve pressures placed on healthcare services and rebuild economic downfalls suffered as a result of the virus.
Vaccines have been helping eradicate life threatening diseases such as, smallpox and polio for almost 200 years. According to the World Health Organisation, vaccines continue to advance and bring us closer to a world free from tuberculosis, cervical cancer and childhood diseases such as tetanus and measles.
The aim of immunisations is to bring us closer to a healthier future and these lifesaving causes available. This objective is fully supported by Biorex Diagnostics, where we aim to help improve healthcare by delivering high quality in vitro diagnostic solutions globally, including tests for the COVID-19 virus.
