Product Description
The Biorex Diagnostics Cystatin-C Assay is an in vitro diagnostic test for the quantitative determination of Cystatin C in human serum and plasma. Cystatin C is a low molecular weight cytoplasmic protein that functions as an inhibitor of cysteine proteases and is removed from circulation through glomerular filtration. Unlike traditional markers such as creatinine, Cystatin C levels are independent of muscle mass, age, and gender, making it a highly sensitive and reliable biomarker for assessing kidney function. In healthy individuals, Cystatin C is fully filtered and metabolized in the renal tubules, whereas elevated levels indicate impaired renal clearance and can be up to five times higher in subjects with renal disorders.
Key Features
- Quantitative measurement of Cystatin C in serum and plasma for accurate renal assessment
- Sensitive and early marker for detection of kidney dysfunction and chronic kidney disease
- Supports evaluation of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) independently of extrarenal factors
- High accuracy and reproducibility with validated enzymatic or immunoassay methods
- Compatible with automated analyzers including Hitachi 917, Olympus AU600/400/640/2700, and CA 180/270/400 Furuno/Daytona systems
Benefits
The Biorex Cystatin C Assay provides laboratories with reliable, reproducible, and clinically meaningful measurements, enabling early identification of renal impairment and facilitating timely intervention. Routine testing helps monitor disease progression, assess treatment response, and support patient management in hospital and clinical laboratory settings. Its ready-to-use reagents and compatibility with automated analyzers streamline workflows, reduce potential errors, and ensure consistency across different laboratory environments.
By incorporating the Biorex Cystatin C Assay into standard laboratory practice, clinicians gain a sensitive tool for detecting kidney dysfunction before significant changes in traditional markers occur. The assay’s precision and stability make it an essential resource for nephrology diagnostics, research studies, and cardiovascular risk assessment where kidney function is a critical parameter.
Laboratories using this assay can maintain high-quality testing, achieve consistent results across patient samples, and provide clinicians with accurate data for effective patient care and management of renal health.
