Beta-2-Microglobulin

β2-Microglobulin is a low molecular weight protein (11800D) found of the surface of all cells except erythrocytes and the trophoblastic layer of the placenta. It is a constituent of the light chain of human histocompatibility antigens HLA, A, B and C. β2M is found on T and B cells and in tumour associated transplantation antigens. β2M may control the expression of antigens on the cell surface and their biosynthesis.  In healthy individuals, β2M is synthesized at a rate of 9 mg/hours and is eliminated mostly by the kidneys.

Biorex Diagnostics manufactures Beta-2-Microglobulin reagents designed for CA 180/270/400 Furuno/Daytona systems.

Product Description

The Biorex Diagnostics β2-Microglobulin (β2M) Assay is an in vitro diagnostic test for the quantitative determination of β2-microglobulin in human serum, plasma, and urine. β2M is a low molecular weight protein that forms the light chain of HLA class I antigens and plays a critical role in antigen presentation, immune regulation, and cellular turnover. Measurement of β2M provides important insights into renal function, hematologic malignancies, and immune-related disorders.

Key Features
• Precise quantification of β2-microglobulin in serum, plasma, and urine
• Supports assessment of renal function, immune activity, and tumor burden
• Immunoturbidimetric method optimised for automated analysers (CA 180/270/400 Furuno/Daytona)
• Sensitive and specific detection of changes in cell turnover and renal clearance
• Reliable and reproducible performance across laboratory platforms

Benefits
The Biorex β2-Microglobulin Assay enables accurate monitoring of kidney function, hematologic malignancies, and immune activation. Its precision, reproducibility, and compatibility with automated analyzers make it an essential tool for clinical diagnostics, patient management, and advanced research in nephrology, oncology, and immunology.
