Glutathione peroxidase (GPx) is an enzyme found in cytoplasmic and mitochondrial fractions of cells.  GPx catalyses the reduction of hydrogen peroxide and hydroperoxides formed from fatty acids, thus effectively removing toxic peroxides from living cells.
