Anti-C

Since the description of the RhD antigen by Levine and Stetson in 1939, more than 40 other Rh antigen complexes have been identified. With the exception of the C, c, E and e and perhaps Cw, few of these antigens or their corresponding antibodies are controlled by a series of closely linked loci on chromosome 1, the genetic contribution from each parent being inherited as a haplotype e.g. Cde, cDE etc. Used separately, anti-Rh blood grouping reagents will indicate whether an individual expresses the corresponding antigen – an essential procedure in the determination of antibody specificity and selection of blood for transfusion of patients with Rh antibodies.

The Biorex Diagnostics monoclonal IgM Anti- Rh blood grouping reagent contains human monoclonal antibodies diluted with sodium chloride, bovine albumin and macromolecular potentiators. This reagent is supplied ready for use and does not require any further dilution or addition.

Product Description

The Biorex Diagnostics Anti-C reagent is a ready-to-use monoclonal IgM solution designed for the accurate detection of the C antigen in the Rh blood group system on human red blood cells. The C antigen is clinically significant, as antibodies directed against it can cause haemolytic transfusion reactions (HTRs) and haemolytic disease of the foetus and newborn (HDFN). Reliable detection of C-positive and C-negative red cells is therefore essential for safe transfusion practices, antenatal care, and extended Rh phenotyping. This reagent is suitable for use in hospital laboratories, blood banks, and reference immunohaematology facilities.

Key Features

  • Accurate C antigen detection – identifies presence or absence of C antigen on donor or patient red cells
  • Monoclonal IgM formulation – provides consistent, sensitive, and specific agglutination reactions
  • Direct agglutination method – clear, easily interpretable results for routine and extended testing
  • Ready-to-use solution – eliminates dilution or preparation, streamlining laboratory workflows
  • Stabilised formulation – includes sodium chloride and bovine albumin for reproducible performance
  • Supports transfusion safety – essential for determining donor–recipient compatibility and preventing alloimmunisation

Benefits
Use of the Anti-C reagent allows laboratories to accurately determine the C antigen status of red cells in patients and donors, improving transfusion safety and supporting antibody identification. Its ready-to-use format reduces handling errors, saves preparation time, and ensures consistent results across multiple tests. The monoclonal IgM formulation delivers high specificity and sensitivity, enabling reliable detection of weak or low-titre antigen expressions and supporting extended Rh phenotyping panels.

Routine application of this reagent facilitates accurate Rh typing, safe transfusions, and the identification of clinically significant antibodies. It also supports antenatal screening programs, helping to prevent HDFN by detecting maternal alloimmunisation. The Biorex Anti-C reagent is an essential tool for hospital laboratories, blood banks, and specialist reference laboratories, providing confidence in patient care, workflow efficiency, and transfusion safety.
