Anti-S

The S and s antigens form part of the MNS blood grouping system and were reported in 1947 and 1951 respectively. Anti-S and Anti-s have been implemented in immediate and delayed Haemolytic Transfusion reactions and Haemolytic Disease in the new born. Indirect agglutination of red cells that carry the S – antigen or s-antigen occurs in the antiglobulin phase.  In the absence of the S- antigen or s-antigen, no indirect agglutination is generally observed.

The Biorex Diagnostics Anti-S and Anti-s reagents consist of human monoclonal IgG antibodies diluted in phosphate buffer containing sodium chloride and bovine albumin. The reagent requires no further dilution or addition for recommended techniques.

Product Description

The Biorex Diagnostics Anti-S reagent is a ready-to-use solution specifically designed for the qualitative detection of the S antigen within the MNS blood group system. It is a monoclonal IgG formulation that provides high specificity and reproducible performance, making it an essential tool for transfusion compatibility testing, extended phenotyping, and advanced immunohaematology investigations.

Accurate detection of the S antigen is critical in transfusion medicine to prevent alloimmunisation and ensure safe donor–recipient matching. The Biorex Anti-S reagent reliably identifies S-positive and S-negative red cells using the indirect antiglobulin (Coombs) method, producing clear and easily interpretable results. Its ready-to-use format eliminates the need for dilution, reducing laboratory preparation time, minimizing handling errors, and enhancing workflow efficiency in busy clinical and reference laboratories.

The reagent’s high sensitivity enables detection of weak or low-expression S antigens, supporting comprehensive immunohaematology panels that include Anti-M, Anti-N, and other MNS system reagents. This versatility makes the Anti-S reagent suitable for extended phenotyping, antibody screening, and compatibility testing in both routine and complex transfusion settings.
