Ceruloplasmin

Ceruloplasmin is an acute phase protein. Incorporation of copper into Ceruloplasmin occurs during synthesis in the hepatocytes. After secretion from the liver, Ceruloplasmin migrates to copper requiring tissue, where copper is liberated and used. Decreased concentrations occur during recessive autosomal hepatolenticular degeneration (Wilson’s disease). On a pathochemical level, the disease occurs as a consequence of missing copper incorporation into the molecule due to a defective metalothionine.

Biorex Diagnostics manufactures Ceruloplasmin reagents designed for CA 180/270/400 Furuno/Daytona systems.

Product Description

The Biorex Diagnostics Ceruloplasmin Assay is an in vitro diagnostic test designed for the quantitative determination of ceruloplasmin in human serum and plasma. Ceruloplasmin is a copper-containing glycoprotein that plays a central role in copper transport, iron metabolism, and antioxidant defence. As a key biomarker, its measurement provides valuable insight into metabolic processes, hepatic function, and systemic inflammatory responses.

Assessment of ceruloplasmin levels is particularly important in the diagnosis and monitoring of disorders such as Wilson’s disease, liver dysfunction, and inflammatory conditions. Reduced levels may indicate impaired copper metabolism or genetic disorders, while elevated concentrations can be associated with inflammation or tissue injury. The Biorex Ceruloplasmin Assay enables laboratories to accurately evaluate these changes, supporting early detection, diagnosis, and ongoing patient management.

Key Features

  • Quantitative measurement of ceruloplasmin in serum and plasma
  • Supports evaluation of Wilson’s disease, liver disorders, and inflammatory conditions
  • Immunoturbidimetric methodology ensures high sensitivity, specificity, and reproducibility
  • Ready-to-use reagents simplify workflow and reduce preparation errors
  • Compatible with automated analyzers including CA 180/270/400 Furuno/Daytona systems
  • Reliable performance for routine diagnostics and specialised clinical applications

Benefits
The Biorex Ceruloplasmin Assay provides precise, reproducible, and clinically meaningful results for assessing copper and iron metabolism, as well as hepatic and inflammatory status. Its robust performance ensures confidence in laboratory testing, supporting accurate diagnosis and effective patient monitoring. The assay’s compatibility with automated systems enhances workflow efficiency, reduces manual handling, and allows for high-throughput testing without compromising accuracy.

Routine use of this assay enables healthcare professionals to detect metabolic imbalances early, monitor disease progression, and evaluate therapeutic interventions. Its versatility makes it suitable for hospital laboratories, specialist diagnostic centres, and research environments focused on metabolic and hepatic health.

By integrating the Biorex Ceruloplasmin Assay into laboratory workflows, clinicians gain access to reliable data that supports informed clinical decision-making and improved patient outcomes.
